Our Story
Veteran owned and operated. Tidal Blues got its start during a beautiful weather window on the Chesapeake Bay in Coastal Virginia. Clear, blue gulf stream water had pushed into the bay from the ocean as it does in late summer. While chasing Cobia around the buoys, we were able to see almost all the way down to the sandy bottom.
That’s when we hooked a big “doormat” flounder and reeled him up from the depths. He really did resemble a big, billowing mat rising off the bottom. People have a soft spot for the flounder, with its flat body and a face that only a mother could love. Why not have an actual door mat? And not just the likeness but the actual shape…
Creating the flounder opened up other ideas. An oyster is a good shape for a rug, mahi mahi are suited for hallways or narrower spaces. In the future, we hope to have everything from blue crabs to grouper and tuna. Let us know what you would like to see. Email us!
